ABOUT MATTHEW

Matthew has worked his whole career in healthcare:
in providers, at national level, in government, in consulting and in digital solutions.

Matthew was Deputy Chief Executive of NHS England, overseeing performance improvement across the NHS, driving its modernisation through major clinical programmes and the move to health system based population health management, and leading the development and implementation of the NHS's information and IT strategies.

Prior to this, Matthew was based in the US, as Senior Vice President of Cerner, the world’s largest dedicated healthcare IT company. He led their global business across 21 countries, created their population health transformation offering, and worked with prestigious health systems across the world.

Matthew started his career in the NHS as a graduate trainee and over twenty years moved on to be the Chief Information Officer, the Chief Operating Officer and then the Chief Executive of three large NHS hospitals.

He has spent two periods in government, one as the Head of the Health Advisory team in the Cabinet Office, directly advising Tony Blair as Prime Minister, and then as a policy adviser to the Secretary of State for Health, during which time they carried through the smoking ban legislation in England, opened up patient choice and launched the NHS's advisory website, NHS Choices.

Matthew is a Visiting Professor at Imperial College London's Institute of Global Health Innovation
and President of the Health Care Supply Association.
